Metz: 800 years of Saint-Etienne Cathedral

In these times of Saint Nicholas and Christmas, the city of Metz and the bishopric of Moselle are celebrating the 800th anniversary of the cathedral. A year of fabulous shows, concerts, conferences and religious celebrations to pay tribute to the builders.

Saturday 7 December 2019, from 5 pm, presentation of the work of the Korean artist KimSooja around a modern stained glass window commissioned by the State; unveiling of the project for the interior signage of the cathedral by the graphic design office “Nouvelle étiquette”; inauguration of the exhibition “The cathedral through the centuries” proposed by Robert Ferry, diocese of Metz with the assistance of Pierre-Edouard Wagner and Gabriel Normand.
From 6 pm, inauguration of the exhibition “The Sacred Fire of the Cathedral: rebirth after the fire of 1877” under the peristyle of the town hall followed by a reception.
At 8 p.m., concert. Mozart: mass in C at the Arsenal by the National Orchestra of Metz the Flemish Radio Choir under the direction of David Reiland proposed by the Cité musicale-Metz.
The official launch of the jubilee of the cathedral’s 800th anniversary will take place on Sunday 8 December 2019 at 3 p.m. by Mgr Jean-Christophe Lagleize, Bishop of Metz, with vespers and lucernary services organised by the diocese.
At 5.30 pm, air show Envolée Céleste, by the Transe Express company, on the square in front of the cathedral, Place Jean-Paul II.
