A teacher was killed and two other people seriously injured on the grounds of the Lycée Gambetta on Friday October 13, 2023. The assailant, of Chechen origin, was arrested.
The incident occurred this morning, at around 11am, at the Lycée Gambetta in Arras (Pas-de-Calais). An individual entered the schoolyard with a knife in his hand. As can be seen from images posted shortly afterwards on social networks, several people tried to intercept him. But the assailant stabbed and killed a teacher, shouting “Allah Akhbar” according to several witnesses, and then two other people who were trying to neutralize him. The prognosis for one of them is life-threatening.
A Chechen on the S list
Police were quick to arrest the perpetrator. The perpetrator was a young man of 20, of Chechen origin, on the S list. His younger brother, who is not yet known to be involved in the attack, was also arrested.
The French National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office (Pnat) has announced that it has opened an investigation into the murder in connection with a terrorist plot.
The President of the Republic and the Minister of Education are on their way to the scene.
