The Israeli Prime Minister said on Monday that Israel would continue “to strike Hezbollah mercilessly in all parts of Lebanon, including Beirut”. How long will this dangerous, bloodthirsty psychopath continue to massacre civilians?
Nothing and no one seems able to stop Netanyahu in his murderous madness. On Monday October 14, a new report from the Lebanese Ministry of Health put the death toll at twenty-one, with a further eight injured, following the Israeli attack on Aïtou, a village in northern Lebanon. Since September 27, there has been a relentless bombardment of southern Lebanon, aimed mainly at civilian targets, schools and hospitals, where, according to Israel, fighters from Hezbollah, the militia close to Teheran, are hiding. And there’s more to come, if we are to believe Benjamin Netanyahu himself, who has announced his intention to “strike Hezbollah without mercy, including in Beirut”.
Over 42,000 dead
Despite the opening of this second front, Israeli strikes continued on Gaza. A bombardment targeted the courtyard of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir Al-Balah, where displaced persons were living, killing at least four people. Another bombardment hit a humanitarian aid distribution center in the northern Jabaliya refugee camp, killing at least ten people, according to Palestinian medical sources. On Monday, the Hamas government’s Ministry of Health announced a new death toll of 42,289 in the Palestinian territory since October 2023.
International community stunned
Until when? How long will this deluge of fire and war crimes continue? The international community, stunned by this barbarity, looks the other way and dares not condemn Israel and its Prime Minister, who has long made a mockery of international law. It even dares to fire on UN peacekeepers, five of whom were wounded, and calls for their withdrawal from Lebanon. UN Secretary General António Guterres pays lip service to this demand. It is true that Guterres is persona non grata in Israel for failing to condemn the Iranian attack on October 1ᵉʳ.
The United States, Tel Aviv’s main ally, continues to support Benjamin Netanyahu despite strong protests from public opinion, particularly in American universities. But the approach of the elections prevents Joe Biden from taking radical positions. Nevertheless, the United States is now urging its citizens to leave Lebanon, fearing a general conflagration in the region.
Europeans divided and powerless
The head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, has condemned Israel’s “unacceptable” attacks on UNIFIL in Lebanon. He announced that the 27 member states had agreed to adopt a joint declaration condemning the attacks and calling for their immediate cessation. Fine words, but totally insignificant.
Emmanuel Macron has floated the idea of no longer sending weapons to Israel. Wishful thinking, nothing more. He was followed by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, who expressed his firm opposition to the withdrawal of UN forces from Lebanon. Continuing his criticism of Israel, Pedro Sánchez reiterated his call for an immediate halt to arms deliveries to the Hebrew state, asserting that without weapons, the war could not continue. He also said that the European Commission should reconsider its association agreement with Israel if human rights violations were proven.
Netanyahu is unanimously opposed, but doesn’t care. Even China is moved by the atrocities perpetrated by Tsahal and calls on Israel to put an end to the “humanitarian catastrophes” in Gaza. That says it all!
But who will stop Netanyahu in his murderous madness, which threatens to engulf all Western countries in a global explosion?
